With less than three weeks into the Champions League Final, Manchester City and Chelsea still don’t know where they will meet to fight the battle.
The final match of the 2020-2021 edition will, in principle, be played at Istanbul’s Ataturk Stadium on May 29. But the Turkish fence, which already had to override its role in 2020 due to the health crisis, is in trouble.
English fans couldn’t go to Turkey
Indeed, Turkey is on the “Red List” of destinations for travelers from the United Kingdom. Which, mechanically, would prevent a number of English fans from attending the final match.
That is why England has applied to host the 100% Premier League shock and Wembley Stadium (London) was considered a backup solution.
That was the solution but UEFA gave itself a third option, according to information from Times.
Portugal, again?
As in 2020, the European Union can transfer the end of the continental tournament to Portugal, to Porto exactly, after Lisbon hosted the “eighth final” last summer.
Unlike Turkey, Portugal was placed on the UK’s “green list”, which would allow fans of the two clubs to make the trip.
Transfer: City and Chelsea are used to that
If the match was held in Porto, it would not be the first time this season that Paris Saint-Germain striker Manchester City (2-1, 2-0) played in the semi-finals, and Chelsea, who eliminated Real Madrid (1-1, 2-) 0) on “neutral ground”.
In the Round of 16, he faced City Moenchengladbach in Hungary, in Budapest, where Germany … the United Kingdom was placed on its “red list”.
For his part, Chelsea challenged Atletico Madrid in … Bucharest (Romania). Note that the Blues also played the quarter-finals on neutral soil, against Porto in Seville (Spain).
