After a full night of low-speed police chases with police, a truck thief blocked one of the Los Angeles-area’s busiest freeways for several hours Thursday morning, before giving up.
Altogether, the thief’s attempt to escape lasted more than twelve hours and caused a huge traffic jam in the middle of rush hour.
According to images broadcast by local television, the thief was driving slowly, making sure his seat belt was fastened and using his flashing light.

The crew started just after 8 p.m. in East Los Angeles on Wednesday night, when the suspect stole a heavy truck from a parking lot.
After warning the driver, the police quickly managed to locate the stolen truck on the highway using a helicopter and was chased by patrol vehicles.
They managed to blew out a number of truck tires using the combs scattered across the bars, but the thief did not stop, and continued his escape on the wheels exposed in a hail of sparks.
After crossing several counties, he ended up stopping the car Thursday at about 4 a.m. in the middle of a highway in Santa Ana, south of Los Angeles, forcing authorities to shut down this section that is used every morning by tens of thousands of people. Motorists are going to work.
The thief did not immediately surrender to the surrounding police, and remained hidden in the truck cabin for more than four hours.
He finally gave up around 8:30 a.m., not without causing major traffic jams throughout the area.
