(Las Vegas) Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz will reignite their rivalry in a friendly match to be played in Las Vegas on March 5, 2023.
The 36-year-old Nadal is the record holder for the number of Grand Slam titles (22). He added two to his collection last season, winning the Australian Open in January and the French Open in June. For his part, Alcaraz, 19, won his first major title at the US Open in September.
Spanish tennis players finished the year sharing the first two spots in the ATP World Rankings: Alcaraz is the youngest player to finish a year at the top of the hierarchy, while Nadal is the oldest in second place. They are also the first nationals to achieve this feat in men’s tennis since Americans Pete Sampras and Michael Chang in 1996.
Friendly Match – Dubbed, like a boxing match, The Slam: Nadal vs. Alcaraz – It will take place inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Tickets will go on sale on Friday.
Nadal and Alcaraz have faced each other three times on the ATP tour, each time as part of a Masters 1000 Series tournament. Leading 2-1, Nadal’s only win was in their last duel, in May, on clay courts in Madrid.
