USA won bronze at the World Juniors

Lane Hudson’s first effort was saved by the keeper but was not cleared by either of his teammates. Lucius gave the Americans the win after taking the Swedes down by three.

Cutter Gauthier scored twice for the U.S., which won its sixth medal in its last eight world junior appearances. Logan Cooley, Ryan Ufko and Luke Hughes also scored.

Trey Augustin started the game in front of the American net and saved 15 of the 20 shots he faced. In relief, Kaiden Mberego made 12 saves on 14 shots.

Filip Bistedt pulled the strings twice for Sweden, including the goal that forced overtime with 22 seconds left in the third period. Oscar Peterson, Leo Karlsson, Milton Oscarsson, Liam Ogren and Noah Ostlund also scored in the loss.

Lindbom was in front of the Swedish net throughout the match. The goalkeeper scored 8 goals in 36 shots.

It was the second straight heartbreaking extra-time defeat for the Swedes, who lost their semi-final against the Czech Republic in similar circumstances on Wednesday.
