Iran signed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action with several world powers in July 2015, agreeing to curb its nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of sanctions against the country. However, former US President Donald Trump withdrew Washington from the agreement and reimposed unilateral sanctions on Tehran, prompting the Islamic Republic to abandon some of its commitments under the agreement.
