United States Open | Fernandez and Dabrowski won the women’s doubles

(New York) The doubles match ended on Monday, as Canada’s Lela Fernandez’s dream single continues.

The 19-year-old and her teammate Erin Rudlif lost 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 to Romanians Elena-Gabriela Roose and Monica Niculescu in the third round of the US Open.

Fernandez and Rudlif have not lost a set since the start of the doubles match, but they found one that suited the Romanians who easily dominated the first set.

After being thrashed in their first two service games in the second set, Fernandez and Rudlif showed a lot of qualities to break their opponents three times to force a final set.

Niculescu and Roose performed effectively in the third set, eventually winning the first match.

Gabriela Dabrowski, along with her teammate Louisa Stephanie, is the only Canadian still competing for the doubles title.

Fifth seed Dabrowski and Stephanie advanced to the quarterfinals, defeating Ukrainians Dayana Yastremska and Marta Kostyuk 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-2.

Fernandez will continue his singles journey on Tuesday as he crosses the sword with Ukraine’s Elena Svitolina in the quarterfinals of the tournament.

On Monday, Canadian Bianca Andres will face Greece’s Maria Chakari along with her countryman in the quarterfinals.
