Nintendo’s latest installment, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, was the best-selling physical game in the UK last week, according to data from GfK.
This is only the fourth time a Zelda game has climbed to number one, after The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening on the Nintendo Switch in 2019, The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker on the GameCube in 2003 and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on N64 in 1998 (where it was No. 1 at Christmas). The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD sold slightly better at launch than the new 2019 edition of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening (sales is 1.3% higher). The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening launched at the same time as the Switch Lite and for an overall stronger month for game sales (September). On the other hand, the install base for the Nintendo Switch in the UK has grown exponentially since 2019.
