Uber giant has partnered with a British access company to develop an electric vehicle that will allow the US transportation platform to reduce its carbon emissions, according to a joint statement released on Tuesday.

The car should be produced from the third quarter of 2023, explain the two companies that want to “explore a strategic partnership in large markets, including the United Kingdom and the European Union”.

The announcement comes a few weeks after the March initial public offering on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange on Wall Street of Access, a young company created in 2015 that has so far specialized in electric trucks.

Access is valued at more than $ 10 billion on the New York Stock Exchange and the South Korean Hyundai Motor Group is among its investors.

The company employs 1,800 people worldwide and opens three factories this year, two in the United States and one in the United Kingdom.

With this agreement, Uber intends to fulfill its commitment to become a 100% electric platform in London by 2025 and in North America and Europe by 2030.

Uber reports that a chauffeur driven car travels an average of 45,000 to 50,000 km annually, compared to 12,000 km in a conventional car.

The arrival company will work with Uber drivers to design the vehicle in the coming months to make sure it meets their needs and the needs of riders. The model will be revealed by the end of 2021.

Uber launches this new “green” initiative shortly after it was forced to develop its model in the UK.
