The UAE team was the biggest absentee from the first season of the Netflix series Tour de France, which returns from within in the 2022 edition. And unlike rival Jumbo-Visma, the UAE team did not participate, leaving a bit of an unfinished flair in the documentary. This will not be the case this time. The Slovenian will be an integral part of Season Two, currently filming on the roads of the Tour 2023.
On the other hand, it is clear that the UAE has set its terms and there will be a difference in treatment with the other teams involved, including the Jumbo – Visma team. According to information from GCN, the images that viewers will be able to view will be chosen by the UAE itself, which is not the case for other formations that have agreed to leave their Netlix cameras in their privacy for three weeks.
Released three weeks before the start of the 2023 Tour, the “In the heart of the peloton” series aims to introduce cycling and the Tour de France to an audience that goes beyond the enthusiasts and the insiders. This didactic approach can be tempting or annoying, as can narrative structure, but overall, the contract is fulfilled. And this time around, the Vingegaard – Pogacar duel that punctuated this 2023 edition can be seen from both sides.
