Team Japan won their second game of the World Baseball Classic with a convincing 13-4 victory over South Korea at the Tokyo Dome on Friday.
Japan star Shohei Otani was his team’s best hitter. Just like the day before, he excelled. The Los Angeles Angels player and pitcher hit doubles in three games, as well as driving in runs. On Thursday, Otani held out China for four runs as a gunner and hit two runs in an 8-1 victory.
The tournament is presented on TVA Sports.
South Korea took the lead in the third inning with three runs on the scoreboard thanks to a two-run hit by Yang Eui-ji, and Japan only scored four runs immediately after.
Another well-known figure in major tournaments, the Japanese gunner Yu Darvish, played his first match for the national team since 2009 and won. The 36-year-old allowed three hits in the same number of innings pitched and struck out in three batters.
“It’s my native country [Japon]This is where I was born and raised. A lot of Japanese fans are watching us. This is a special opportunity. “If it wasn’t for playing baseball in Japan, I would never have had this career,” Darwish said after the game, which was reported by MLB.com, “So I played gratefully tonight.”
Japanese team manager Hideki Kuriyama has nothing but praise for the San Diego Padres pitcher.
“Dervish is a symbol of the Japan team,” Kuriyama said after the match.
Italy brought back to earth
After surprising the Cuban team by winning 6-3 in the curtain raiser, Italy lowered their flag 11-7 against Taiwan in Taichung.
Tzu-Wei Li, Yu Chang and Kungkuan Giljegiljaw all entered the bout for Taiwan.
The victory went to the record holder of Yen-Ching Lu, who did not allow a hit in two active runs.
Canada will enter the scene on Sunday against the United Kingdom, which is participating in this tournament for the first time. The match will be broadcast on TVA Sports.
