Relations between the European Union and the United Kingdom continue to deteriorate.
More than 630 people have been arrested for strict enforcement of new traffic rules between the two sides of the channel. Some citizens have been sent to detention centers upon arrival in the UK.
This policy is nothing new, explains Thanja Bultman, a professor of immigration history, and it does not specifically target EU citizens. “This is called hostile environment. It has affected many immigrants from different places and has been around for many, many years. Because of Brexit, the citizens of the Union fall into this hostile place and environment“, Explains a professor at the University of Strathclyde.
These arrests concern not only tourists who have been on a short-term or family visit, but also job applicants. However, London needs qualified European staff for various departments. “It is clear that the border controllers are exaggerating“, Says Thanja Bultman.
The European Commission calls on British authorities to stop taking unilateral action. The Vice President of the organization responsible for the relationship with the United Kingdom calls for calm and focus on the future.
Maro šef describes cellsovi magazine articles, which refer to being detained in the cells of EU citizens and taking fingerprints of tourists. As for Slovak, this environment is not conducive to post-Brexit relations. Many EU citizens are urging the commission to explore all possible diplomatic avenues to find a solution.
