In an uncertain economic environment.
With many discussions raging about the 2022/23 ski season, Sunweb – the leading European tour operator for all-inclusive ski holidays – is putting together a first list of encouraging booking trends for next season with 4% growth already recorded on bookings (vs 2021).
sun webThe European ski holiday tour company and leader in tailor-made online travel packages is revealing very encouraging trends in bookings for ski holidays this winter. The Sunweb Group is present in no fewer than seven European markets including France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Germany and the United Kingdom, and has already recorded a good increase in bookings since mid-August. At the end of August 2022, Sunweb recorded +45% sales last week compared to the same week last year.
While booking trends remain similar to those of last year for the Netherlands, most other European markets are already showing great enthusiasm for ski holidays this winter with bookings up 15% + for French, 10% for Germans, 30% + Swedes and bookings doubling From the UK – Particular enthusiasm echoes the recurring travel bans in winter 2021/22.
on the side of the destinationAustrian ski resorts seem to be already benefiting from this positive trend in reservations, as is Andorra. French resorts stay on track while Italy posts slight delays in bookings. In the catalog of Sunweb offers, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes remains the preferred region for ski holidays in France with a peak in registered reservations at the following resorts:
1. Val Touraine
3. La Blaney
The end of the year holiday seems to be gaining momentum with a noticeable increase in bookings for Christmas stays, in contrast to the New Year holiday which seems less popular at the moment. Vacationers plan their winter holidays early, as bookings for February have already increased by 10%. The last week of February 2023 (common in Zones A, B and C) naturally records the highest rate of bookings to date. While March and April 2023 seem less attractive for those who love winter sports at the moment, the rest will tell us whether the 2022/23 season extends into spring break – climate and snowfall remain a major factor.
Cécile Revol, Managing Director of Sunweb France Comments on these early trends: “ We are seeing a very positive European booking trend confirming travelers’ appetite for ski vacations this winter. Among the current trends, we note an increase in reservations for hotel establishments, less for apartments and chalets. 4* in particular is gaining ground on the 5*, no doubt the economic context will have an impact on the type of reservations. But one thing is for sure, reservations are currently confirming a clear interest from holidaymakers for skiing this winter, in the vast majority of European markets, and we are ready to support them as best we can. »
