Square Enix has banned over 5,000 players for what it considers “illegal activity” in Final Fantasy XIV.
This is an update from the official Website, The publisher reminded players that “real money trading (RMT) and other illegal activities upset the balance of the game and are therefore prohibited under the Terms of Use.”
After reporting “Confirmation of Actors Engaging in These Illicit Activities”, Square Enix has now closed 5,037 accounts for engaging in real money transactions and prohibited activities, and another 814 accounts to advertise real financial transactions.
The ban took place between February 25 and March 3, 2021.
The statement reads: “Players discovering proven advice must, at all times, exploit or publish this information” (Thanks, PCGN). Instead, we require players to submit a report using the in-game command. [System Menu] -> [Support Desk] -> [Contact Us] -> [Report Cheating].
In addition, any RMT ad that has been shown can be reported by right-clicking on the character’s name in the chat history and selecting List. [Report] -> [Report RMT Activity]. The report will be processed automatically, and if it is decided to fall under the RMT ad, the reporting person’s comments will be limited.
Square pledges that it will “continue to take strict disciplinary action against any account with proven involvement in RMT / illegal activity” and advise players to “stay away from any activity” suspected of violating the Terms of Service.
