Saint-Etienne. Stefano’s Cancer Plan Officially Launched

“This plan is the result of a collective thinking that both Stefanoise and Stefanoa took part in,” stressed the mayor, Gael Perdrio, at the time of the official launch. Municipal plan to fight cancerFriday afternoon, at La Comète.

Surrounding the occasion was the official-elect of the MEP and oncologist Veronique Trillet-Lenoir and Professor Daniel Nazry, president of the National Cancer Control League.

Gael Perdrio noted the means used to develop this cancer plan, the fruit of two years of work. It was established on the basis of the report of Professor Franck Chauvin, Director of Prevention and Population Health at Saint-Etienne University Hospital, but also thanks to hearings with associations, users and health professionals, and an advisory platform for the population.

The phases of these hearings and consultations, which revolve around eight topics, will provide the basis for writing a concrete action plan that will be developed from the end of 2022.

Concrete precautionary measures

The mayor emphasized the “going towards” approach of this anti-cancer plan, which aims to combat social disparities in access to care in the Saint-Étienne region.

Concrete actions are planned, such as deploying prevention buses to meet the population or setting up health centers for testing in particular. A full day open to the public has been organized on Place Jean Jaures, where a “protective village” with themed events awaits visitors.

In the evening, Professor Chauvin hosted a conference at La Comète on cancer prevention, followed by a discussion on the topic “The City, Cancer and Well-being”, one of the main themes of municipal policy.
