Rafael Cubanni has confirmed a full-time presence in Formula 2000 for the 2022 season. The number 9 will therefore take part in 12 events of the SCCA US Grand Tour, the Formula 2000 US National Championship in the USA.
Having believed in his financial sacrifices during the last four years of his career, dropping out of college, but also massive social sacrifices, the adopted Trifluvien will fulfill part of his dream, cheating the dream of running full time in the USA.
“I am very proud of the sacrifices you made to get to this point today. I also thank you for all the companies that have believed in me since my beginnings in karting. It is always my pleasure to represent the local companies.”
So far, the last Canadian to win the 2000 Formula US National Championship was Claude Bourbonnis, in 1988. Young Quebecere could write history in Canada if he were to take the 2022 title out of 12 full-time pilots who would take the part.
When making the leap into the world of professional motorsports in the United States, drivers need to have very good financial backing, especially when it comes to five-figure racing weekends (in US dollars). This is why the Saint-François-du-Lac native has signed a two-season agreement (2021 and 2022) with North American manufacturer, Les Planchers de Bois-Franc Wickham.
“I cannot reveal the numbers on my part, but their presence is very important to me. The season will include 12 races and this requires very good support. I am very proud to represent Les Planchers de Bois-Franc Wickham. The important thing is to always prove what we can do on The right track, no matter what budget we have,”
The US Formula 2000 National Championship will see six weekends of competition. It will launch next March, in Virginia, and finish its way in New Jersey, in July, giving drivers the opportunity to complete their seasons at higher levels. Kiopini could also be one of the aspiring drivers in Formula 3, as well as finding a steering wheel in the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières.
