– Cry from the heart On Thursday, a citizen from East Palestine was fired during the first meeting between a representative of Southern Norfolk and residents of this small town in Ohio, where a railroad company train carrying toxic chemicals derailed last February 3, an incident that raises concerns about the environment and public health. The Norfolk Southern representative was repeatedly interrupted as he tried to apologize and explain the company’s turnaround efforts.
Note: The Environmental Protection Agency announced Thursday that it will require Norfolk Southern to test the level of dioxins, highly toxic pollutants, in the area. But the government agency estimates that, according to its analysis, the likelihood of these contaminants being present after the drift is “low.” Some residents of eastern Palestine complained of headaches and rashes.
