The French government has decided to impose a series of sanctions against the UK amid tensions over the non-issuance of licenses to French fishermen by the British. This includes an impending ban on the landing of British fishing vessels in French ports.
The government said in a statement that maritime security checks on British ships would be in place from that date, according to a statement from Maritime Minister Annie Girardin and Secretary of State for European Affairs Clement Peon.
From November 2, health and customs checks on UK imports will be tightened, as will the number of trucks coming to and from the UK.
About 50% have no licenses
“What we see today is that almost 50% of the licenses we own are missing,” Gabriel Attal said during a report to the Committee of Ministers, warning that anti-French measures would be implemented from the beginning of November. There will be no policy change next week for the licenses we own. “
These licenses allow European fishermen, and especially French, to access British waters in Jersey and Guernsey, six to 12 nautical miles off the British coast.
