Bianca Andreescu was eliminated in the Philippine Island Cup semi-final on Thursday.
The second seed lost 6-7 (9) 6-2 7-5 to Marie Bozkova of Czech Republic.
Bozkova, who boosted her record to 1-2 against Ontario, will meet Swords of Russia, Daria Kasatkina, in the final of this tournament of the WTA Series 250.
Kasatkina beat American Daniel Collins 6-2, 6-7 (6), 6-1 in the other semi-final match.
Andreescu, who won the US Open in 2019, was 4-2 in 2021 after missing the Women’s Tour for 15 months – until the Australian Open.
The 20-year-old bent down in the second round of her first Grand Slam tournament this season last week, to set up her tournament table featuring the hastily eliminated players in Melbourne Park.
Andreescu, ranked ninth in the world, received a pass to the second round of the Philippe Island Cup. She defeated American Madison Pringle, before defeating 83H World racket Zarina Dias in the round of 16 and 74H World player Irina Camelia Bijou in the next round.
Andreescu was expected to be ranked eighth in the world when the WTA Ranking Update was released on Monday. The Canadian is also expected to participate in the Adelaide International Championships next week in Australia as well.
