BBQ vs. A Kidney: A 40-year-old woman who didn’t have much longer to live takes the chance of her life by inviting a stranger listed as a kidney donor to join her table.
Lucy Humphrey, an Englishwoman from Caerphilly, Wales, didn’t expect to get a kidney from a stranger while strolling on the beach with her partner and two dogs, the BBC reported on Monday.
In 2019, the 44-year-old woman with lupus began to suffer from kidney failure, to the point where doctors told her she could only live five years.
Except that in June 2021, on the beach at Cold Knapp in Barry, South Wales, one of his Doberman pinschers kept pestering forty-year-old Katie James, who was loving you away.
“Actually, she herself was having a bad time, so I invited her to our barbecue,” Lucy Humphrey said in an interview with the BBC.
When the woman joins the couple to share a meal, she offers them alcohol, which Lucy Humphrey politely declines. Then her husband indicated that she was on dialysis while waiting for a kidney.
“Oh, I just got the list of kidney donors,” she said.
The next day, the two women begin the organ donation process.
“It passed all the tests and it turned out to be a perfect match. One surgeon told us there is a one in 22 million chance of finding a perfect match, and that is what I need.”
Despite the complications, the donation, which took place last October at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, was a success.
