New assistant with Red Wings

Recently appointed by the Detroit Red Wings as head coach, Derek Lalonde has added assistant coaching staff at Jay Faraday.

That’s what General Manager Steve Zerman announced on Monday. Faraday was previously the head coach of the Tucson Roadrunners, the AHL ranch club of the Arizona Coyotes.

The 44-year-old Illinois native went 93-84-17 at the helm of the club two terms from 2018 to 2022. His minor league careers punctuated a season as an assistant for Rick Touchet with Coyotes in the National Hockey League (NHL), in 2020-2021.

Faraday also led the Kingston Frontenacs in the Ontario Junior Hockey League in 2017-2018, with Jason Robertson (Dallas Stars) making his mark notably, and the Sioux City Musketeers, in the United States Developed League (USHL), from 2013 to 2017.

This hiring comes just days after Bob Bogner was appointed as co-head coach and Alex Westlund as goalkeeper coach, on July 8.

The Red Wings fired all of their coaches, led by pilot Jeff Blashel, at the end of April. Under his rule, the Michigan team has missed the playoffs in the past six seasons.
