A series not profitable enough for Netflix
Three and a half years after Mindhunter season 2 aired on Netflix, fans of the series haven’t given up hope for a third season. However, the signs have been apparent for months, and a recent talk by David Fincher, showrunner of the series, seemingly definitively confirmed the end of the series. And after passing through Paris to receive an honorary Caesar, the American director confirmed to JDD at the end of February that the series was over. I’m so proud of the first two seasons. But it’s a particularly expensive show, and in Netflix’s eyes, we didn’t attract a large enough audience to justify such an investment.” He added, “I don’t blame them, they took the risk of launching the series, gave me a way to do as Mank dreamed, and allowed me to venture down new paths with The Killer.” The Killer, starring Michael Fassbender and Tilda Swinton, hits Netflix on November 10.
Please don’t let such a bright line die.
To make Netflix bow, “Mindhunter” fans launched an online petition in 2020 directed at the platform and David Fincher. “Please don’t let such a great series die,” the writers said at the time, “because we know, beyond any doubt, that this series has the potential to become Netflix’s most popular and successful series.” This petition. Petition has seen a resurgence in popularity in recent weeks with David Fincher ads. It has already collected more than 36,000 signatures. Unfortunately, fans are unlikely to find their way. Despite having more than 110,000 signatures, the petition to save The OA remained a dead letter.
