– The United States is issuing 92 million francs to Afghanistan
Washington will dedicate nearly 92 million francs to “meet the urgent and unexpected needs” of Afghan refugees and migrants. Joe Biden announced in early June that he would withdraw US troops from the country by August 31.
The White House announced on Friday that it had released about 92 million francs to deal with migrant emergencies related to the situation in Afghanistan. The US administration has said the funds could be used unilaterally or in a multilateral manner.
It is a question of “responding to the urgent and unexpected needs” of Afghan refugees and migrants, including interpreters and other aides to the US military seeking to benefit from the US special visa program.
39 million Afghans needed
U.S. troops are due to end their withdrawal from Afghanistan by the end of August, when the country is on the verge of a full-scale Taliban offensive, raising fears of a humanitarian crisis.
The United Nations recently estimated that half of the estimated 39 million Afghans are in need of assistance, and called on the international community to maintain financial assistance to the country.
