The “MacGruber” series was developed by NBC for US broadcast platform Peacock, and you’ll be able to count on having actors Sam Elliott, Laurence Fishburne and Mickey Rourke in the cast.
A character created to parody MacGyver on Saturday Night Live in the US, which was the first movie adaptation in 2010 (which was a bitter fiasco, editor’s note), MacGruber will therefore be able to count on the talent from these three main actors to make his onscreen difference. small.
Sam Elliott, who will play McGruber’s father, is known for his role in A Star is Born, which earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor, as well as the films Tombstone, or The Big Lebowski. Laurence Fishburne is a recurring actor on the sitcom Back-ish, and has played in The Matrix, John Wick, Apocalypse Now, and Predators. Mickey Rourke has most recently starred in the films The Westler – for which he received an Academy Award nomination and Best Actor at a Golden Globe – but also in Sin City and Iron Man 2.
MacGruber, dismissed in 8 episodes, will see Will Forte reprise the role of that special – and completely incompetent – agent tasked with saving the world using unorthodox methods. After ten years in prison, he will try to put an end to the actions of an old enemy, the evil brigade commander Enos Queith. “With the entire world in their sights, MacGruber, Vicki, and Piper must race against time to defeat the forces of evil. But they will discover that evil can be hiding within, and the summary sets.”
Note that Kristen Wiig and Ryan Philippe will reprise their roles as Vicki St. Elmo and Dixon Piper – who they played in the movie – for the TV series. NBC has not released its broadcast date yet
