LPGA | Thailand wins the International Tour crown

(San Francisco) Athaya Theticul at the age of 16H hole, allowing Thailand to sign a win over Australia in the LPGA Championship’s International Crown Final on Sunday.


Teticol beat Stephanie Kyriakou 4&2 to improve her record this week to 5-0 and give her country the winning point. This was Thailand’s first title in this match format tournament.

Patti Tavatanakit had already defeated Hannah Green 4&3 in the other singles match.

Sisters Arya and Moriya Jutanugarn won their doubles match against Minjie Lee and Sarah Kemp by scores of 4, 3. Seeded sixth, Thailand ended the week by winning 11 of their 12 matches.

The USA defeated Sweden in the consolation final for third place.

The International Crown is a tournament involving teams of four golfers from eight countries. These are divided into two groups. The top two teams from each group advance to the semi-finals, where the format dictates two matches in singles and another in alternating strokes.

The players on the winning team receive $125,000 each while the contestants receive $75,900 each.

It was a great weekend for Thailand, who didn’t finish fourth in their first three matches in the tournament.
