Joint venture between Honda and Sony unveils Afeela, a new electric brand

This is not here First time That the electric car developed by Honda and Sony was revealed to the general public, but this year, at CES in Las Vegas, this joint venture took a step in the right direction.

In fact, presenting this other prototype with an improved design accompanied by a new car brand, the two partners who decided to christen this model Afeela. Even the CEO of the joint venture, Mr. Yasuhide Mizuno, said that the production version of this electric vehicle will be available in the first half of 2025 with pre-orders open.

North American consumers will be able to get their hands on the first Afeela from… Spring 2026.

He said, “Afeela represents our concept of interactive relationship, where people feel the sense of intelligent mobility and where mobility can feel and understand people and society using sensing and artificial intelligence technologies.”

At first glance, the aerodynamic sedan’s silhouette appears very streamlined with its nearly horizontal window line and that roofline that curves from end to end. At either end, there are two light strips for lighting and braking, but also for communicating with pedestrians and other motorists. For that matter, we’ll have to wait before we learn more about that outer shell that Honda and Sony like to describe as the “media bar.” Finally, those large 21-inch wheels—and optimized for aerodynamics—complete this sedan’s virtual first lap.

Inside, the passenger compartment, of course, is equipped with a dashboard rich in displays. Moreover, the dashboard is lined with screens with a small truncated steering wheel and even two more screens connected to external cameras that play the role of our traditional mirrors. In the back, two more screens are attached to the backs of the two front seats to entertain those in the second row. Between the two front passengers, there is also this floating console that ends with this large wheel for navigating through the multiple applications available on this infotainment system.

The sedan is also equipped with no fewer than 45 cameras and sensors, which shouldn’t hurt when it comes time to activate the driver assistance systems. The joint venture also confirmed that the car will have Level 3 highway capability and Level 2 city driving range.

We should learn more over the next few months about this first step for this brand new Afeela that has been built from scratch by Sony and Honda. With the two Japanese brands’ high-tech pasts, this newcomer can succeed where other new brands have failed in recent years.
