Patients with life-threatening coronary artery disease can be treated five times faster. This is thanks to the 3D scanners introduced by the British National Health Service (NHS). This revolutionary technology called Heartflow allows heart diagnosis in 20 minutes.
New scanners can convert a regular CD scan of the heart into a 3D image so that doctors can quickly detect them. The company added that nearly 100,000 people will benefit from the technology over the next three years.
Heartflow technology, introduced last month, is part of the NHS ‘long-term plan to reduce the number of heart attacks and strokes in the UK to 150,000.
“By rapidly improving the rate of diagnosis and treatment of those with heart problems, we will save thousands of lives and ensure that the NHS is able to provide regular services faster than ever before, while providing the most effective vaccination program in the history of health care.” Said Stephen Bovis, director of the NHS Medical in the UK.
Heartflow scanners will initially be used in the UK before moving to other European countries, such as the US or Japan.
