The annual WWE Extreme Rules fight takes place this weekend. This annual event pits WWE Superstars against each other in all manner of stipulations, with some feuds ending and others reaching another level on the show.
The show, which has its roots in the illegal heyday of Extreme Championship Wrestling in the 1990s, has had six matches announced so far. WWE offers a diverse card with every type of fight imaginable. Here’s a recap of the announced fights and how to watch them.
Where: Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
When: Saturday, October 8, 2022
chain: WWE Network or BT Sports Ticket
Start Time: Pre-show: 12 noon. Main event: 1 am (UK time)
Liv Morgan (c) vs. Ronda Rousey: Extreme Rules match for the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship.
Former UFC star Ronda Rousey is eyeing a third chance against champion Morgan. After losing the title at Live at Money in the Bank, Rousey was controversially pinned by her rival at SummerSlam. Now the “baddest woman on the planet” is trying to get back what she thinks is rightfully hers.
Matt Riddle vs. Seth “Freakin'” Rollins fight pit match
WWE’s version of the Octagon will get a serious boost of credibility with former UFC champion Daniel Cormier as special guest referee. The MMA world is no enigma with a 7-3-2 record with the UFC. Rollins won their first major PPV match last month at Clash At The Castle in a technical match.
Drew McIntyre vs. Carrion Cross: Strap match
Cross was involved in McIntyre’s feud for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship in Cardiff last month. Today, the “Scottish Warrior” gets his chance at revenge in an awesome old-school stipulation fight. The two will be bound by the wrists, meaning one of the most brutal confrontations of the evening cannot be escaped.
Bianca Belair (c) vs. Bayley: A ladder match for the WWE Raw Women’s Championship.
Another WWE staple, the ladder match will serve as the battleground for the final episode of the Belair-Bayley feud. Bayley’s division, which includes Damage CTRL, IYO SKY and Dakota Kai, has been instrumental in the feud thus far. Don’t be surprised to see the team have a decisive influence on the outcome here.
Edge vs. Finn Bálor: The “I Quit” Match
The fight pits the former leader of Judgment Day against the current personality. The main point of the conflict here is the band bribing Dominic Mysterio, Edge’s friend and Rey Mysterio’s son. A younger Mysterio sided with the goth-influenced stable, turning on Clash at the Castle Edge and Rey. Now, “The Rated R Superstar” seeks revenge for that slight in an I Quit match, where the goal is to knock your opponent down until they give up and say those words.
The Brawling Brutes (Sheamus, Ridge Holland and Butch) vs. Imperium (Gunther, Ludwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vinci): A good old game of Donnybrook.
Funny contest name, serious business. Judging by the recent clashes between these teams, this will be the toughest game of the show. Sheamus and Gunther secured WWE’s Best of 2022 match last month, and the addition of their partners adds another level of intrigue to the match. Good old-fashioned Donnybrook means these six men have guns and rifles in their hands.
