The 2021 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship will take another step toward crowning champions on Saturday, August 21, as the series returns early to southern Maryland and the iconic Buds Creek Motocross Park. This summertime tradition has been happening in the shadow of our nation’s capital, Washington, D.C., for over 30 years, and proximity to our nation’s heart always provides extra energy and atmosphere to work on the track. After a year away from this classic American MotoGP stadium, the fastest riders on the planet and the most important championship in the world are once again eager to tackle the ups and downs of Budds Creek and the tough corners.
After perhaps the most impressive performance of the 2021 season to date, Honda HRC’s Ken Roczen will bring the momentum of the 450 class to Buds Creek. It turned into a two-way battle for the Edison Dye Cup between former champion and summertime rising star Dylan Ferrandis of Monster Energy/Star/Yamaha Racing. These two international rivals continue to impress every time the door is opened and will continue their ongoing battle into the ninth round of the season.
In the 250 class, things got even tougher at the top of the standings as Team Honda HRC’s Jett Lawrence returned to the long-awaited podium finish. As a result, only four points now separate the young Australian and Monster Energy/Star/Yamaha Racing’s Justin Cooper, who continues to lead with podiums at every round this season. These two riders have been swapping their momentum from bike to bike all summer, so no one can guess who will take charge at Budds Creek.
In the United States, broadcast coverage at Budds Creek will include a nationwide delayed broadcast of Class II 450 Motorcycles on NBC. Sunday 22 August. Saturday’s live coverage will focus on the first bike show on MAVTV Motorsports, followed by coverage of the second bike delayed tape on NBC Sports Network later that night.
