For the fourth time in four US Finals, Riley Opelka was crowned in Houston after defeating fellow countryman John Isner.

After New York in 2019, Delray Beach in 2020 and then Dallas earlier this year, Riley Opelka won his fourth career title on Sunday. And again, the eighteenth in the world could celebrate on American soil. Marking the close final match against fellow countryman John Isner, the 24-year-old managed to add a new line to his roster. A meeting that began with great solidity of service on both sides. However, Reilly Opelka showed the first signs of fever when a break point was saved in the fifth game. However, it was he who took the lead at the end of the set, snatching away his opponent’s serve before taking the lead at his first chance. Meanwhile, the second round presented a slightly different scenario.

Isner didn’t take his chance, and Opelka didn’t hesitate

Indeed, in each of the service games, Reilly Opelka faced great difficulty. In total, the No. 3 seed in the tournament had to save seven break points before he got one. The two players finally had to explain themselves in the decisive match. After winning by two points in the opposite clash, John Isner had two tie balls in one group all over the place, and he missed them all. It ranked 27 in the world at number three, without knowing more success. Then Riley Opelka took his chance. Giving himself his first match point in serving his opponent, the 18th World went on to wrap up this final (6-3, 7-6 in 1:49′). A victory would allow the American to secure a place and find out on Monday the best arrangement of his career. In the meantime, John Isner will approach the top 20 list.
