Clinton was speaking at a pro-Trump rally on September 17 when she was invited to the Texas Tribune event in Austin on Friday, where several members of the crowd raised their index fingers in the air to congratulate the former US president. However, this gesture is related to the QAnon conspiracy movement.

The 2016 presidential candidate also drew a parallel between Trump’s rallies and those of Hitler.

“When I was a student, I remember trying to figure out why people were attracted to Hitler. How could this have happened?” says Mrs. Clinton.

“I watched some footage and saw this man shouting and raging, his supporters shouting and throwing their hands in the air. I asked myself: “What happened to these people?”,” he adds.

For Hillary Clinton, there are parallels between these archival images and Donald Trump’s rallies.

“You saw this rally the other night in Ohio: Trump was there, he was screaming and passed out for over an hour, and all these young people had their hands in the air. I thought, ‘What’s going on?'” the former US politician said.

“I think it is fair to say that we are currently witnessing a struggle between democracy and autocracy,” he added.
