The Turkish Foreign Ministry summoned US Ambassador to Ankara Jeffrey Flick on Sunday to express unease over the US embassy’s warning about the protest ahead of a rally in Istanbul on Saturday.
He told Jeffrey Flick that the protest warning contained unfounded allegations about actions taken by security units during such gatherings, according to information obtained from Turkish diplomatic sources.
The US ambassador was also reminded that the disproportionate use of force by law enforcement is a serious problem, and incidents in the United States for this reason are proof of this.
Moreover, the US official was told that political party rallies are a well-established tradition of democracy, and that it was unacceptable to give the impression that there was a big problem in Turkey in this regard, and that the procession in question took place in the present day. Saturday without incident.
Finally, Jeffrey Flick was told that any future travel or protest warnings US authorities might issue to their citizens should be prepared with the facts in mind.
