What are the origins of tennis? We asked the reader the question. So we go back to 1874, when a Briton drew up the first tennis rules, inspired by tennis. We talk about it in our video.
Who invented tennis? This is the question Baptiste asked us. The chance to go back to the origins of racquet sports.
Tennis is one of the predecessors of tennis. It was Major Clopton Wingfield, an Englishman, who started from one to create the other. This sport is not as old as one might think. The first rules date back to 1874.
We explain all this to you in our video.
Tennis: What is Grand Slam winning?
Four major tennis tournaments proved to be the most important of the year: the Australian Open, Roland Garros (in France), Wimbledon (in the UK) and the US Open (USA). They are called Grand Slam tournaments.
To win a Grand Slam means to win all four of these tournaments in the same year. While many players have won a number of Grand Slam tournaments, only two have won all four titles in the same year: Donald Badge (1938) and Rod Laver (1962 and 1969).
Steffi Graf is the only athlete who has owned all categories combined Won the Grand Gold Championship, that is, the four Grand Slams plus the Olympic Games in the same year. She achieved this performance in 1988.
