Topics include migration, climate, energy, security, economy, youth and general foreign policy objectives

President Macron is set to host British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on March 10 for the first France-UK summit since 2018.

Topics include migration, climate, energy, security, economy, youth and common foreign policy goals, the UK says.

The 2018 summit discussed similar issues and France’s position in Brexit negotiations.

Theresa May and Mr Macron met members of the Franco-British community for a photo at the Gastropub.

Mr Macron spoke at a time of “unique history” between the UK and France.

Commentators hailed the new summit as a sign of a “thaw” in relations, but some suggested it would cloud the Northern Irish border issue if it remained unresolved.

Former UK Ambassador to France Peter Ricketts previously said: That link Resolving this issue is key to good future relationships.

He said April 10, the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement, could be the “real deadline”.

Mr Sunak hopes to build cooperation on migrants across the channel. The European Coastal Agency reported that 71,000 irregular migrants crossed in 2022, a 37% increase compared to 2021.
