Electrical connection project between Morocco and the United Kingdom Xlinks receives 150,000 hectares for its installations.

The State of Morocco has announced a commitment to provide 150,000 hectares of land available to the Xlinks as part of the Electrical Link Line between Morocco and the United Kingdom.

This result is seen in the report on public land mobilized for investment with the support of the Finance Bill.

The British start-up intends to settle in the Guelmim-Oued Noun area, provided the surface is similar to its requirements for a 3800 km submarine electrical connection, which will connect the two countries.

The project includes the construction of a 20,000-hectare photovoltaic solar farm, as well as a 5 GW battery for wind turbines and energy storage.

The move, which will cost more than 200 billion dirhams, will eventually supply 8% of Britain’s needs and supply 7 million British homes. Xlinks predicts 10.5 GW of solar and wind power generation, and the connecting line will be the longest in the world, at 3800 km, passing through the regional waters of the three countries before consolidating the British phase.

It is planned to start work on the construction and installation of solar and wind turbines by 2023 and then by installing the HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) cable system in 2025 before coming online in 2027.
