EA reportedly gave the go-ahead for another fight night, but progress was halted by the UFC

Fight Night Champion PS4 PlayStation 4 1

Fight Night will return to the ring, VGC reports – but EA Sports is prioritizing a new UFC title first. It’s been more than 10 years – and an entire generation of consoles – since Fight Night Champion was released on PlayStation 3, leaving many to assume that EA has put its boxing brand aside. However, with the announcement of EA Sports College Football and the EA Sports PGA Tour, the publisher recently indicated a desire to diversify its catalog – and a new brawl called Moneyball appears to have been given the go-ahead.

Unfortunately, it looks like you’ll have to wait years to play it. According to “development sources”, the publisher has paused production on its boxing project in order to focus on EA Sports UFC 5, which appears to be slated to launch at the end of next year. VGC claims to have seen internal emails, in which the publisher explains that he had difficulty recruiting staff for Fight Night and therefore could not create them simultaneously with the MMA game.

“We are very excited about EA Sports UFC 5 and want to get rid of the common focus that many of our management team had in the past so we can focus solely on immigration and high quality EA Sports UFC 5. Presumably the email says. No word on when a transfer will take place. Work is on to the new Fight Night game, but from the VGC report, it looks like it won’t go into full production until 2023.

In the meantime, EA Sports may find itself facing fierce competition from the eSports Boxing Club, which is shaping up to be something special. Although there is no release date associated with the UK-developed fighter, it has amassed a huge list of licensed fighters, and the gameplay is amazing. If these two titles end up clashing, it will be an even bigger battle than Joshua vs Fury – assuming that one someday happens.
