“This virus is unusual,” he said. Fauci notes the speed of its spread on CNN. “He’s going to get the upper hand”, and “the closer winter gets, the harder it will be for weeks or months”.
“It’s spreading very quickly, in fact, around the world and undoubtedly in our own country,” he told ABC, adding that he was concerned that nearly 50 million eligible Americans had not been vaccinated.
“When you have this level of infection, when a virus like Omigran spreads so quickly, we’m going to see significant pressure on the hospital system and staff in some parts of the country.
The virus is “rampant around the world, in fact,” he told NBC.
The Omicron variant is spreading around the world at full speed, causing restrictions in many countries, such as the one in the Netherlands.
On Sunday, US senators Elizabeth Warren and Cory Booker, the former Democrat’s leading candidate in the 2020 presidential election, each wrote on Twitter that they had tested positive for Govt-19 and were showing slight signs. They did not say whether the infection was from the Omicron variant.
Since the WHO office in China reported the onset of the disease in late December 2019, the epidemic has killed more than 5 million people worldwide.
