NEW YORK – Nine months after he was banned from social media for his involvement in the attempted insurrection on Capitol Hill on January 6, former US President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday the launch of his own online platform.
He says his goal in launching the Trump Media & Technology Group and its “TRUTH Social” app is to compete with the tech giants who shut it down and stole it from its mouth. An essential tool for his partisan movement.
We live in a world where the Taliban is on Twitter, but your favorite president is gagged. This is unacceptable,” he said in a statement.
The new company said it was born out of a merger with Digital World Acquisition Corp. And they wish to become a public joint stock company.
Donald Trump floated the idea of creating his own social network platform from the moment he was banned from Twitter and Facebook. A previous attempt to put a blog online on an existing site was abandoned due to low traffic.
In addition to the first app, which is set to launch next month, before its official wide launch early next year, the company says it is working on a video-on-demand platform that delivers entertainment, news and information.
