COVID-19 in Reunion: 19 cases of the Omicron variant detected on the island –

From December 11-17, Reunion recorded 4,558 new cases of COVID-19 and 8 new deaths. Of these, 19 cases of the Omicron variant were recorded on the island.

“From December 11 to 17, 4,068 positive tests were screened for mutation identification: 3,532 cases presented one of the identified mutations under surveillance, ie 86.5%. The delta variant represented more than 95% of the detected mutations.”, refers to the province in a press release.

From November 30 to date, 19 positive cases of the “Omicron” variant have been identified. “Sequencing operations are ongoing, particularly for checks that are considered suspicious,” the county continues.

Among the 4558 new cases in the period, we note for the reported cases:

– 2899 cases classified as original,

– 19 imported classified cases,

– 8 cases classified as secondary original.

Update on groups:

As of December 21, 2021, 68 groups are active and 582 groups are closed.

Among the 68 active groups:

– 19 classified as “moderate”: Le Port (5), Le Tampon (3), Saint-André (1), Saint-Denis (2), Sainte-Marie (1), Saint-Joseph (1), Saint Louis (1), Saint-Paul (3) and Saint-Pierre (2).

– 14 classified as “high”: Le Port (1), Le Tampon (1), Saint Benot (1), Saint-Denis (7), Saint-Paul (1) and Saint-Pierre (3).
