According to government figures, 820 people have died from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, a level equal to the all-time high on August 26, 2021. Daily infections are also on the rise, reaching 21,438.

Russia is the European country hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, and one of the hardest hit in the world.

Against the background of distrust of the authorities, vaccination was halted for several months despite the design of many national vaccines. And public authorities, in order to maintain a stagnant economy for years, refuse to take restrictive or containment health measures.

Moscow admitted Wednesday that it was facing a second outbreak, after the summer outbreak, due to the more contagious delta variant. Injuries jumped by 24% within a week, and hospitalizations by 15%.

And the metropolis recorded 3,445 new infections and 54 deaths during the past 24 hours. The country’s second city, Saint Petersburg, was not left behind, with 1,698 infections and 53 deaths.

The Kremlin once again ruled out any significant restrictions, and its spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that “there were no discussions on this issue.”

Peskov acknowledged the “increase in numbers” but said it was up to local and regional authorities to decide what to do next.
