Calgary — The Canadian Pacific Railway announced Friday that it will officially merge with American Kansas City Southern on April 14 under a new name, Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC).

The Calgary-based company said CP’s President and CEO Keith Creel will lead the new company, while CP’s Nadeem Vellani will be its chief financial officer.

KCS President and CEO Pat Otensmire will become an advisor to Keith Creel through the end of 2023 to promote continuity.

CB noted that the new company will operate the first single-line railway linking the United States, Mexico and Canada.

It is expected that approximately 64,000 trucks per year will be moved from North American highways to railroads.

CP and KCS received the go-ahead for the deal from the US Surface Transportation Board earlier this week, removing the final hurdle to closing a $31 billion deal signed in December 2021.
