Broccoli against allergies

A study presented by Inserm indicates that eating broccoli or cabbage can reduce the severity of skin allergies. In this study published in the English-language scientific journal eLife, researchers from the National Institute of Health and Medical Research (Inserm) and the Curie Institute first show that the absence in the diet of compounds found in some vegetables, particularly broccoli and cabbage, can exacerbate skin allergies in animal models. .

In their work, the scientists were particularly interested in dietary compounds that act on a molecule found in the body, called the “aromatic hydrocarbon receptor” (AhR). These nutrients are naturally found in cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli. They showed that the absence of these nutrients in mice was associated with an increase in the inflammatory state of the skin and exacerbation of skin sensitivity, which was not the case for mice that received a diet containing these compounds.
