(Vancouver) Discount airline New York JetBlue will offer its maiden flights to Canada.
The US airline has announced that it will offer flights between Vancouver and New York, as well as seasonal flights to Boston, starting in the summer of 2022.
The company plans to add seven destinations from New York or Boston, in the US, starting late this year, as well as a new link to Honduras.
JetBlue said in a statement that its expansion plan is part of the next phase of the alliance with other US airlines licensed by the US Federal Department of Transportation earlier this year.
The announcement comes as the airline industry hopes there will be an uproar among travelers as vaccination campaigns reach more people in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Scott Lawrence, head of revenue and planning at JetBlue, says customers and employees have been pushing for more flights to destinations in the central US and Canada.
“We cannot wait to change the status quo in these markets which are dominated by the higher-priced airlines,” he said.
JetBlue will significantly become a competitor to Canadian airlines Air Canada and WestJet.
Tamara Froman, chief executive of the Vancouver Airport Authority, said she was “pleased” that JetBlue has chosen Vancouver as the first Canadian destination.
As we prepare for unnecessary travel after the pandemic, this new service scheduled for the summer of 2022 allows us to look to the future with optimism. ”
