Libyan Prime Minister Abdel Hamid al-Dabaiba received, on Wednesday, in the capital, Tripoli, a high-level US delegation that includes Deputy Secretary of State for Middle Eastern Affairs Joey Hood.

The “Our Government” platform of the Libyan government reported on its website that Dabaiba received at the headquarters of the Ministry of Defense in Tripoli an American delegation that arrived in the country today, including Hood, along with the US envoy and US ambassador to Libya Richard Norland. and White House officials.

A statement issued later by the Libyan government stated that “the meeting focused on the latest developments in the political situation in Libya and the steps taken to implement the road map and the challenges facing the elections (December 24th).”

The statement included the words of US State Department adviser Derek Chollet, who affirmed his country’s support for “the political process and cooperation with the government to hold the elections that should be held.”

Last Sunday, the embassies of the United States, Germany, France, Italy and the United Kingdom urged the Libyan parties to hold presidential and legislative elections on the date set for the end of this year, and to respect their results.

Libya has enjoyed a political breakthrough under the auspices of the United Nations for months. On March 16, an elected transitional authority, composed of a national unity government and a presidential council, assumed its duties to lead the country to legislative and presidential elections on December 24.
