A welcoming space for the LGBTQIAP+ community in Ath

At the start of 2022, Infor Jeunes Ath conducted a survey questioning the representation of the LGBTQIAP+ community in the area. Launched on social networks and in a few schools in the work area, the survey collected more than 340 responses from young people between the ages of 12 and 26, mostly from the Atois region. “Through this survey, we were able to highlight several findings, including the need to break through loneliness, as well as the need for information and education for a more inclusive, respectful, neutral, and non-judgmental sexual and emotional life.says Infor Jeunes Ath.

After this survey, 50 young people wanted to join a working group to implement projects and actions for the benefit of the LGBTQIAP+ community in the area. “It is clear that there are no initiatives and few associations specialized in the work of the Infor Jeunes Ath Center. So we created a free reception area that allows LGBTQIAP+ youth to meet, meet, share, break loneliness and create bonds of solidarity. This place is a safe place where they will feel safe to be who they are.. “

Two monthly meetings

Twice a month, the reception area, located in the Infor Jeunes Ath building (avenue Saint-Martin 8), provides a reassuring and relaxing welcome, benevolent listening, a safe meeting place, entertainment, creative workshops, expert information, queer books and comics … for Complementing the proposed offering to the LGBTQIAP+ community, Maison Arc-en-Ciel de Mons also decentralizes its presence there once a month. At the same time, the Infor Jeunes Ath team trains and trains the regional associative fabric to better welcome young people from the LGBTQIAP + community.
