24 Hours of Le Mans, a decisive event at Goodyear!

This year, the US tire manufacturer is the sole supplier of LMP2. Le Mans is of course the main event on the calendar and like last year, the Goodyear Balloon will be there!

The 89th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans is not only the most famous endurance race in the world, but an important event for Goodyear. Having become the exclusive European and global tire suppliers for the LMP2 class, Goodyear is preparing for an intense activity with 26 cars!

By providing the entire field of LMP2, the most representative category on the network, Goodyear will provide a range of tires but also work with teams to allow them to extract the best performance from tires. Goodyear returned to the 24 Hours of Le Mans last year and finished with two cars on the podium. Since then, Goodyear has been appointed as the sole tire supplier to WEC and ELMS. In the 24 Hours of Le Mans, that’s 26 cars, more than a Grand Prix and for 12 times longer.

Goodyear will not only be present at the track. Spectators will be able to enjoy the Goodyear balloon in the sky. This will be the symbol of the American brand at Le Mans for the second year in a row. The airship made a real tour of Europe, flying over the UK, Germany, Italy, Poland, Slovenia and Denmark. During the race, the airship will transport dignitaries and guests, and photos of the race will be taken from the airship.

Pilot’s point of view

Portuguese pilot Antonio Felix da Costa (Who is the brand ambassador?) in his fourth participation in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. He knows how important it is to find the right strategy with tires and stops in deciding who will be on the podium or not. Last year, with his Jota Sport teammates, Anthony Davidson and Roberto Gonzalez, they finished second and want to go up one step further this year.

“Le Mans is a track where the tires don’t deteriorate much. So we can do more with the tyres. The team is working on a strategy where we change one tire at a time or only tires on the same side. There are a lot of options to consider in order to waste less. As time as possible at the stops. Since Goodyear has become the only manufacturer, everyone is on the same level. Now it is up to us to work with Goodyear technicians to move in the right direction.”

If testing starts tomorrow, Hyperpole will take place on Thursday and racing will start at 4:00pm on Saturday.
