Decommissioning body event to inform attendees of latest advances in the sector

Decom North Sea (DNS), the offshore oil and gas decommissioning forum, is hosting a Lunch and Learn event which will inform attendees on latest advances in the sector as well as giving advice on how to reduce costs and improve performance.

The Lunch and Learn, which takes place this month, will feature presentations from three oil and gas service companies; Fugro FSSL Robotic Technologies, Lucion Marine and Tracerco.

The event is open to members and non-members and is taking place on 14 November 2012 at the Palm Court Hotel, Aberdeen, from 12 – 2pm. 

The regular Lunch and Learn events give supply chain companies the opportunity to present their offshore decommissioning capabilities to operators and major contractors. The events also provide good networking opportunities for attendees following the industry presentations.

DNS chief executive Brian Nixon said: “DNS has achieved great success with the Lunch and Learn series of events, the first of which was in 2011. The events draw a high number of DNS members as well as non-members and are an excellent opportunity for attendees to keep up to date with industry news and network and build relationships with key players in the industry.

“The events attract speakers from well established companies within the industry and the latest event is no exception.”

Simon Marr, business development manager from Fugro FSSL Robotic Technologies, will present attendees with details of latest advances in the sector and include information on mapping survey data to structures, fast mapping of structures with ROV’s and cut planning.

Presentations will follow from Patrick Morton, managing director from Lucion Marine and Lee Robins, business manager from Tracerco about their experiences in the industry and their companies offering to the offshore decommissioning market.

DNS has grown since inception in 2010, to have over 200 fee paying members drawn from operators, major contractors, service specialists and technology developers. With annual decommissioning expenditure in the North Sea forecast to top £1billion within a few years, DNS was set up to tackle the main areas of weakness, which are inhibiting decommissioning supply-chain capability.

The Lunch and Learn events go towards the forum’s strategy to encourage the supply chain to consider the opportunities within the decommissioning sector. DNS regularly organises a number of events, seminars and share fairs across the North Sea regions. 

Last month, ten new directors were elected onto the DNS board from across all sectors of the decommissioning industry at the AGM which was held in St Andrews. These industry professionals bring experience and knowledge from various sectors of the industry, which is vitally important for DNS going forward.
